Adi Kailash Yatra to Open from September 15: SDM Announces Official Dates

Pithoragarh, Sept 1 – The much-awaited Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra is set to reopen for pilgrims and tourists from 15th September, as confirmed by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM).

The sacred Himalayan pilgrimage, popularly known as “Chhota Kailash,” remains closed during the monsoon season due to frequent landslides and unsafe weather conditions. With improved road connectivity and favorable weather forecasts, authorities have now decided to resume travel from mid-September.

The SDM stated that all necessary preparations, including road clearance, homestay readiness, and Inner Line Permit (ILP) arrangements, are being finalized to ensure a safe and smooth journey for devotees.

Located near the Indo-China border in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, Adi Kailash holds immense religious significance for Hindu pilgrims. Thousands visit every year to witness the majestic Adi Kailash peak, Om Parvat, Parvati Sarovar, and Gauri Kund.

Local tour operators, Pithoragarh and Dharchula Tour Operator Union, Taxi Unions and homestay owners have welcomed the announcement, expecting a boost in tourism after weeks of monsoon lull.
